Inspections to keep your e-bike reliable

Here you can find out when inspections are advisable, what is checked and how you can prepare.
Key basics
When should I book an inspection?
  • First inspection: after approx. 100–300 km (cables/spokes settle; re-adjustment).
  • Regularly: depending on use, about every 6–12 months or around 2,000 km.
  • Additionally: before long tours, after a crash/impact, or if you notice unusual noises/poor braking.
Tip: Book early in the season (spring is very busy).
What happens during an inspection?
  • Safety: brakes (pad thickness, bite point), steering/headset & other bearings, bolt torque.
  • Drivetrain: chain/belt, gears/ratios, sprockets/wear, belt tension.
  • Wheels/tyres: centring, spoke tension, tyre tread & pressure.
  • E-system: software/error codes, updates, sensors, contacts, battery diagnostics.
  • Suspension: fork/shock (if fitted), play/sag, seals.
Warranty & documentation
  • Keep the service book/invoice; all work is documented.
  • Firmware updates & diagnostics are recorded – helpful for future queries.
  • Wear parts are not covered by warranty; regular replacement is part of maintenance.
  • Velowallet Have the inspection logged or verified.

Check software/updates
Ask about firmware during the inspection; note error messages/behaviour.
Note: Intervals are guidelines; with lots of rain, cargo loads, hills/mountains or winter use, plan shorter intervals.
Before the appointment – quick prep
  • Note important observations (noises, shifting, brakes, electrics).
  • Bring the battery (partly charged) and have keys/anti-theft codes ready.
  • Give the bike a light clean (no pressure washer) – it makes the service easier.
  • If available: bring service book/invoices/VELO ID/parts links.
Frequently asked questions
Will I lose the warranty without an inspection?
Regular maintenance is recommended. Keep receipts – they help with goodwill or warranty matters.
How long does an inspection take?
It depends on scope & workload. Your retailer will give you the timeframe.
What costs are involved?
The price depends on labour & parts (e.g., brake pads).
